An Insight to Life

 "What immediately captured my heart walking into the grounds of Bryn Ffynnon was the sense of space and tranquility, the open vista to the sea and mountains beyond, and feeling like we were in a private nature and wildlife haven. It felt unbelievable that all this could be ours and private for us to enjoy. The simply incredible views that unfold differently every day, the fresh air, the ever changing weather, the soft micro-climate and also the feeling of wildness I just immediately felt very close to nature.

Over time my relationship deepened by walking the land, and experiencing the golden sunrises, often getting up for them if I know it’s a clear morning (the cottage faces east), seeing the moon over the water and watching it appear in different places, the blanket of stars, walking over the local footpaths and the hill behind the cottage, or down to the holy well, or through the woods and down into the valley near Tyn-y-Parc, taking the dog on a circular walk back up on the footpath from Treheli farm. 

Life here revolves around the seasons and a warmly inclusive, bilingual community. The historic, coastal village of Aberdaron acts as the social heartbeat of the area. Here, whitewashed cottages house essential independent shops, friendly local bakeries, and community hubs that bring neighbours together year-round. It is a place where faces are familiar, heritage is celebrated, and life is lived at a beautifully restorative pace.

Christmas is a particularly special time here. One Christmas the sun shone, there was no ice or snow but the weather was so soft we could walk down to the beach and play games there. The stars are incredible on a crisp clear winter night. The multifuel stoves on all day keep us cosy. September is a great month for lovely swims, the sea has had all summer to warm up, and for weather which is often the best. Also you can see bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoises in Hell’s Mouth Bay / Porth Neigwl once the summer noise and activity has gone.

So many gorgeous beaches and coves on both sides of the peninsula, Porth Ceriad, Porth Iago, Porth Ysgo (the tiniest cove you have to walk down steps to but is beautiful and often private). Sblash in Aberdaron – the best seafood takeaway, lobster tails and chips! Lovely café at Treheli Farm just below the cottage, plus at the Oriel gallery in Llanbedrog and also the café on Llanbedrog beach".

Location

Bryn Ffynnon overlooks Porth Neigwl and its magnificent four-mile stretch of golden sand — a spectacular backdrop for everyday life. Imagine starting the morning with a walk along the beach, spending summer afternoons paddleboarding in the bay or simply finding a quiet spot to watch the sun set over the coastline. Just a short walk downhill from the cottage, you pass the National Trust’s Plas yn Rhiw, a beautiful 16th-century manor house surrounded by enchanting gardens. Stop for a morning coffee before continuing towards the beach, with the popular Treheli Farm Coffee Shop also along the way, offering a tempting selection of homemade cakes, sweet treats and hot drinks.

Just a 15 minute from Bryn Fynnon, Aberdaron is a wonderfully picturesque coastal village at the western tip of the Llŷn Peninsula. Once a traditional fishing village, it retains a timeless charm, with its sandy beach, historic church, independent cafés, pubs and village shops creating a relaxed atmosphere.

For a livelier day out, Abersoch is approximately 15 minutes away in the opposite direction. One of North Wales’ most sought-after coastal destinations, it offers a wonderful choice of restaurants, bars and independent shops, together with a harbour where you can launch a boat and explore the coastline from the water.

Beyond Abersoch, the Llŷn Peninsula reveals more than 100 miles of spectacular coastline, with golden beaches, secluded coves and crystal-clear waters providing endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.

Around 20 minutes away, Nefyn & District Golf Club offers the chance to enjoy a round of golf in an extraordinary coastal setting, with sweeping sea views accompanying you around the course. Afterwards, head down to the famous Tŷ Coch Inn, tucked away on the beach at Porthdinllaen — the perfect place for a drink or something to eat beside the sea.
